Research

The CMS HENP group has performed various jet measurements in heavy-ion collisions which have contributed significantly to our understanding of the hot and dense QGP. More recently, the group has explored the flavor dependence of jet energy loss in the medium using jet charge measurements and is working on developing new heavy flavor tagging techniques. Members of the group are also working on various aspects of the proposed Mip Timing Detector (MTD) upgrade to CMS.

The STAR group at UIC focuses on measurements of Heavy Flavor particles and their interactions with the QGP. The group has played a leading role in detector upgrades for the STAR experiment, including the Intermediate Silicon Tracker (IST) detector. The group is currently working on the STAR Forward Silicon Tracker (FST), leading the detector design and construction.
