Dhanush Hangal Heading link

dhanush

Dhanush is a member of the CMS collaboration and his research interests include studying jet reconstruction in heavy ion collisions and mechanisms of jet energy loss in the QGP. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee in 2015. Dhanush led the efforts in the first jet charge measurements in heavy-ion collisions using data from the CMS detector, which is also the main focus of his thesis work. He is a member of the heavy-ion jet reconstruction team and serves as the main contact for “data foresting” in the CMS collaboration.

Ziyue Zhang Heading link

ziyue

Ziyue Zhang joined the UIC HENP group in May 2018 and works with the STAR collaboration. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Physics from University of Science and Technology of China in 2017. Since his first day at UIC, he has been working with Prof. Zhenyu Ye, his senior students and post-docs on topics of heavy flavor physics, including Cold Nuclear Matter Effects on J/psi and Upsilon Productions at RHIC with the STAR Experiment. Outside work, Ziyue enjoys exploring Chinese cooking techniques as a part of his own culture, and “inherits” the cooking skills of Sichuanese.

Andres Aguilar Heading link

andres

Andres has been interested in nuclear physics since he was introduced to the concept of quarks in high school, which led him to pursuing a career in physics. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a B.S. in Engineering Physics and continued with his education in physics by enrolling in the PhD Physics program here at UIC. He joined the High Energy Nuclear Physics group in his first year as a graduate student. He has been working on the STAR experiment during his time with the group, first working on the testing for the upgrades on the Forward Silicon Tracker and then using data from the experiment to work on physics analysis.
